Public utilities are installed, owned and maintained by utility companies to provide service to an area. These public utilities typically include gas, electric, communication, water and sewer. They may be located on either public or private property.

Private utilities are these same utilities, but now they are those that extend beyond the service meter and these need to be located by a private utility locator. It is at the point they go from being publicly maintained to being privately maintained.  The maintenance and ownership of these private utilities are the property owner's responsibility.  A few examples are:  electrical, gas or water lines feeding an outbuilding; water and power lines to a well; various utilities running to and from apartment buildings, industrial complexes, shopping malls and hospitals.

You've already called 811 and they have marked all the public utilities. You know that these utilities continue past the meter and are present on your property where you need to dig. It is a must to locate and identify the location of the private utilities lines before digging to stay safe and avoid doing and damage. In addition, sometimes  maps are missing or may not even exist. 

Private utilities can include: electrical lines, gas mains, water lines, communication lines, internet and fiber optic cable, septic systems, irrigation and sprinkler lines. Call us and our team of highly trained locators before you dig to make sure that utilities in your dig area are identified.
